In the 1960's, Si Orton established and operated the Big Red Bell Driving School. His unique teaching techniques caught on in the Ithaca area. His classroom was situated in an old building where the new County Mental Health Services now stand on Green Street. In the Mid 80's Si moved the classroom to its present location at 101 N. Cayuga St. above Williams Shoe store.

An instructor in a company vehicle (which makes it even more ironic) tailgated me while I was going 5 miles over the speed limit, passed me, and proceeded to go well above the speed limit including while driving through Cass park. I'd hate to see these dangerous driving habits be passed on to a young driver.

John is a really great instructor - so friendly and patient! I took lessons with him twice a week and was able to pass my road test within 6 weeks of my first lesson, when I had never held a steering wheel before. I would highly recommend any new driver learn with John at the Big Red Bell driving school!

I had lessons with Tom and John. Both of them are incredibly nice and patient. They are really accommodating and professional, they gave detailed and useful instructions during the lessons. Having lessons with them definitely made me more confident and I passed the road test in first try. Highly recommend the Big Reg Bell Driving School!

Never received a call back for a week. Called again and then received a voice message claiming they couldn't understand my cell phone number because it was broken up and that I didn't repeat (though this was not true, I specifically remember repeating my number the first time I called), so it "wasn't their personal fault, " according to them (implying it was my fault).
Then they said that they were completely booked and could take on no new students at this time--seems highly unlikely given the two preceding reviews. Anyway, you can try calling them, and I wish you the best of luck, though I am not too hopeful. Wholly unprofessional and very bad at running a business.
